2020 Sales Tax Holiday Starts Today!
/The Florida Legislature recently passed a 2020 sales tax holiday bill which provides for a tax-free period beginning on Friday, May 29, 2020 and ends on Thursday, June 4, 2020.
During the sales tax holiday period, the purchase of qualifying items, listed below, related to disaster preparedness are exempt from sales tax. The sales tax holiday does not apply to the rental or repair of any of the qualifying items outlined below. Additionally, the sales tax holiday does not apply to sales in a theme park, entertainment complex, public lodging establishment or airport.
Qualifying Items
Items of Note:
Items normally sold as a single unit must continue to be sold in that manner, they cannot be priced separately.
Qualifying items purchased during the sales tax holiday period using a gift card qualify for the exemption, regardless of when the gift card was purchased.
Qualifying items purchased during the sales tax holiday and later exchanged for an item of the same type (different size, color, etc.) no tax is due. However, if the qualifying item is returned for credit, the purchase of a different item will be subject to sales tax.
A retailer's coupon, discount, or rebate will reduce the sales price of a qualifying item and can be used to determine whether an item qualifies for exemption. A manufacturer's coupon, discount, or rebate cannot be used to determine whether an item qualifies for exemption.
Service warranties – if the retail sale of an item is exempt from tax, the charge for a service warranty sold with the item is exempt.
