HHS to Begin Immediate Delivery of Initial $30 Billion of CARES Act Provider Relief Funding

On April 9, 2020, the United States Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) announced the distribution of the first $30 billion of $100 billion of CARES Act Provider Relief Fund to hospitals, nursing homes, and other healthcare providers.

All Medicare providers will receive payments based on their 2019 Part A and Part B billings. HHS will distribute these funds directly to providers either electronically or by issuing a paper check. Based on the analysis done by the American Health Care Association, providers will receive approximately 6.2% of their 2019 billings.

HHS emphasizes that these payments are not loans to healthcare providers, and will not be repaid. These payments should be considered as grants.

To learn more about these funds, please read the attached documents. Please make sure to read terms and conditions for these funds, as providers would have to certify that these funds will only be used “to prevent, prepare for, and respond to coronavirus, and shall reimburse the Recipient only for health care related expenses or lost revenues that are attributable to coronavirus.”
