Dan has extensive experience auditing the financial operations of governmental agencies and teaching continuing education for professionals in the public sector.

Dan O’Keefe is the Shareholder-in-Charge of the Firm's Central Florida office, and serves on the board of directors. Within his 35 years’ experience in public accounting, which includes governmental and not-for-profit support, he has extensive experience auditing the financial operations of governmental and not-for-profit agencies, serving numerous municipalities, counties, state agencies, special districts, and authorities.   

Nationally recognized for his thought leadership in the area of governmental accounting and auditing, he is one of the most sought-after public sector instructors in Florida.  Dan provides continuing professional education (CPE) services to clients, peers and governmental agencies nationwide.  He has authored numerous CPE courses on governmental accounting and auditing and taught CPE courses sponsored by the American Institute of CPAs and the Florida Institute of CPAs. Dan has previously served a four-year term on the Florida Board of Accountancy CPE Committee.  He also consults in the areas of internal control assessments, litigation support, fraud remediation and performance reviews.

Why did you choose MSL over other firms?  I merged my firm into MSL in 2005. Before that I had been providing MSL with CPA CPE services for 10 years. I was always impressed with the quality and professionalism of the staff and management.  Our two cultures blended perfectly.  

What do you enjoy most about your area of concentration?  Most people do not fully understand what local government does. My knowledge of the governmental sector has allowed me the opportunity to educate thousands of people as to the importance of local government and the benefits derived.

How do you unwind when you have free time?  My primary passion is downhill skiing. I am just as happy biking and hiking in the mountains.

Do you watch sports?  Have a favorite team?  As a graduate of Florida State University (FSU), I’m a big sports fan. I have season tickets and go to games as often as I can. I’m also a very sad Miami Dolphins fan, enough said about that.
