Steve Jones is a Shareholder at
Moore Stephens Lovelace, P.A. and is the Director of
the Firm’s Skilled Nursing Facility Practice Group. Steve
has over 27 years of experience in public accounting,
primarily serving clients in the Long Term Care industry. He
focuses his practice on skilled nursing facilities, home
health agencies and hospice organizations, providing
reimbursement consulting services and serving as an advocate
for his clients to various healthcare regulators and 3rd
party payers.

Since 1986, Steve has served as the
Firm’s
primary representative to the Florida Health Care
Association (FHCA), the state’s largest nursing home
industry group. He serves as both an advisor to FHCA’s Board
of Directors and its reimbursement policy committees. He
authors a monthly article on reimbursement accounting and
compliance issues for the association’s newsletter as well
as Long Term Care Updates for the Firm’s clients and
contacts. In addition to presenting statewide seminars for
industry groups, he often speaks at district meetings on
Medicare, Medicaid and Managed Care. Steve has also
presented training on negotiating contracts with managed
care organizations. He is also responsible for developing
Florida benchmarking data for skilled nursing facilities.
Featured Successes
Steve provides expert testimony for state
hearings, specifically on Certificate of Need issues or
issues arising from Medicaid audits. By testifying on behalf
of his clients, he is able to help them optimize revenues
and minimize the negative effects of an audit. He is
frequently quoted in industry publications, including Eli
Publication’s Long-Term Care Report and Rehab Report.
Recently, Steve assisted a client during the purchase of a
large group of nursing homes in which the seller had
previously submitted poorly prepared budgeted cost reports.
He leveraged his contacts within the state regulatory
offices to allow the reports to be resubmitted. Under
Steve’s direction, MSL was able to expedite the second
submission and the client’s cash flow was improved by almost
$5.5 million in the first year of operations alone.
